If you plan to leave the U.S. for any reason during your program and wish to return on the same program, be sure to obtain a "Travel Validation" on your original DS2019 from your DS Sponsor.
If you don't know how to request a "Travel Validation" to your DS Sponsor, call or email ICCE for immediate support. (support@icceusa.com 1-213-380-4546/ Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM PST)
Your health insurance includes coverage for medical care and hospitalization as well as coverage for medical evacuation (your return home in case of serious illness or accident). Your insurance provider has the list of the hospitals you can go to in the nearest area from your location. For detailed information about the insurance coverage or the list of the hospitals, contact your insurance provider directly.
You must file for tax report every year just as the regular employees do. In other countries, usually the tax report is filed by the company, but in the U.S. employees must file for taxes independently.
Whether you're staying in the U.S., or have already returned to your home country, you can still use the tax services of an American CPA (accountant) or other companies specializing in filing tax reports for visa holders such as TAXBACK, ST Consulting or other.
When you are returning to your home country, you must leave your contact information (full mailing address, email, phone number) to the HR or the Accounting Department of your Host Organization, so that you can receive a W2 form which is issued by employers for employees (including program participants) to file taxes.
Interns/Trainees can get a refund of the taxes paid after the tax report is filed. However it may happen that you have not paid enough taxes while in the U.S, in that case you would have to pay the remaining balance to the IRS. This happens very rarely. In any case you should have your taxes filed by April 15th.
