Safety & Health Course for International Interns: Renting Apartments and Health Insurance

On March 11, 2017, the ICCE Korea WEST students gathered at POLY Pasadena in order to hear three speakers speak about extremely important topics when living in the U.S. The first speaker gave the students various tips on renting apartments in the U.S. She shared information on how to find housing, how to pay rent, and quick tips on dealing any issues that could arise with roommates, neighbors, and landlords. The students were inquisitive about various difficulties that could arise during their stay in the U.S. but were eased as our speaker answered their questions directly and thoroughly. Afterwards, two lively speakers from the WEST students’ insurance company delivered key information regarding the students’ health program.  The students were presented with PowerPoint slides detailing the coverage and fees for visits to a general doctor, urgent care facilities, and emergency rooms.  The students were also presented with real-life scenarios in which international students needed to use health insurance in the U.S. and how those students navigated the system.  At the end of the presentation, the students participated in a trivia game in which the presenters asked comprehension questions from the presentation.  Students who answered quickly and correctly were rewarded with prizes including candy, pens, and portable chargers.
